The Rise Of The A League – Destroy, Whiteboy

I’ve always liked playing soccer and more recently I’ve enjoyed watching A-League games. Where the grandeur may not equal the heights of the EPL, I find it more interesting than the EPL (go Tottenham). Here’s the article I wrote about the A-League where I looked at its growing popularity and had a chat with one of the hosts of The B League, Jules Schiller.

Artifact, Archaic Line (Graphics Remix) – Destroy, Whiteboy

“For his latest music video, Alexander Ingham Brooke has teamed up with Derek Jarman’s cinematographer Christopher Hughes (Pet Shop Boys, The Last of England), producing a colourful music video that focuses on the themes of growing up, set against the harsh backdrop of British council housing.” – Deadplate Records.

It’s that time of the year again, and this time I’m cutting it close. This year has been Uni, working at Softbelly, moving to London, having adventures in London and in 27 days I’ll be moving back to my beloved Melbourne. Loved this year and appreciative everything I’ve experienced, the people I’ve met and my already existing friendships. Here are some of the songs that made up the soundtrack to my life this year. My Top Memes of 2011 – Destroy, Whiteboy

MEMES! Probably the best thing to come out of the Internet besides free stream porn. I joke, it’s THE best thing.

““In its most basic form, an Internet meme is simply an idea that is propagated through the Web. This idea may take the form of a hyperlink, video, website, hash tag, or even just a word or phrase. This meme may spread from person to person via social networks, blogs, direct email, news sources, and other web-based services.” (Internet Meme Wikipedia, 2011)

As the year winds up, here a few of my favourite memes to come out of the year that was 2011.

Shows You Should Have Watched By Now: Community – Destroy, Whiteboy

Here is the second instalment in the series (the first being Arrested Development). You really should heed my advice and start downloading these torrents, right away.

Community is one of those shows that I’d always been meaning to watch but never gotten around to it because I was too busy going through seasons of 30 Rock and Degrassi Jnr High while I wrote essay papers on Internet memes (I love them) and feminism. But now I’ve had time to catch up on the show.

It took me a while to get into it though. I wanted to love it straight away because it has Joel Mchale, the amazing host from The Soup and the legendary Chevy Chase, who whenever I see makes me get Call Me Al by Paul Simon stuck in my head. That can only be a good thing. Alas it took me about 4 or 5 episodes to really get into it.

Personally, character development is an important aspect of any show and this show has some really great characters with an excellent balance of personalities. Simply put it’s about a study group at a Community College.

I Like Them But… – Destroy, Whiteboy

Can you separate a person’s work from their personality?

Arrogance usually comes part and parcel with successful musicians (and some that aren’t so successful), but these artists take smug, amplify it and then spit in your face while obnoxiously poking you. Sometimes I find it hard to separate their horrible public persona from their excellent music. Am I the only one that feels this way? Here are two artists that leave me feeling confused.

10 Songs That Should Be Banned Forever – Destroy, Whiteboy

I recently came across an article on ‘100 song that had been banned in China’, and while I don’t really believe in any cultural decisions the communist ruled China make for its people, they did get a few choices bang on. (See the list – here)

Among the list of mainly Chinese artists, who you know, probably sing about crazy stuff like freedom of the press and civil liberties, are some Western artists. Western artists who I’d like to see banned as well. This list includes; Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Simple Plan, Backstreet Boys, Owl City and they really seem to hate Take That. I guess the group did launch Robbie Williams, that sweaty cokehead warbler, into mega stardom and a solo career…well played China.
